The Issues / Concerns
Politics is complex. Many different problems, a multitude of areas to look at and seek remedy. In fact, there are far too many to list, and it grows by the day. Here you will find a handful of current issues that I believe need our attention. Sadly, most people running for office just put up a few hot button topics that capture the support of their base. But in the real world many things matter, not just attention getters. As a hopeful Representative my goal would be to hear from the voters on what their individual concerns are.
If you made it this far, after reading through, please email me your biggest issues and what you believe can be done about it as well.
Inflation & Rising Costs
Prices and cost of living has escalated very quickly bringing many people to the financial breaking point. You know this is a massive problem, you feel it everyday. This must be placed at the forefront of all issues. When a majority of citizens are struggling to pay for basic essentials at the same time that elected officials are raising taxes and their own pay, we have a serious disconnect between us and our representatives.
Accountability in Government / Wasteful Spending
The government has a responsibility to US, the citizens, to work for them and in their best interests. This also includes a fiduciary duty in how our money (taxes) is handled. Many of us feel they continually breach the trust which is essential to the relationship. The only way this trust is repaired is by people with integrity stepping up and doing the right thing. Elected officials must strive for accountability of government to the people.
Preserving Liberty
Liberty is a word we hear often. It's written on our currency, monuments and historical documents. However, many of us don't really understand what the word even means. Quite simply, liberty is freedom. Constitutionally, it's our freedom from arbitrary and unreasonable restraint. Both physically and our ability to excercise our will. Remember, government operates with our consent, it is our duty to keep it in check.
Promote Healthy Living
We entered this decade in historic fashion. The vast effects of Covid 19 will be felt for a long time to come. Yet, it's as if we learned very little from the experience. Rather than hope for miracle cures, we should be focused on the promotion of healthy lifestyles that allow our bodies to be protected naturally as much as possible. For all the billboards, tv commercials, radio ads and public addresses promoting the vaccine (made and sold by private corporations), never once, before, during or after did we see or hear anyone promoting a balanced diet, exercise, vitamins and reducing intake of carcinogens to prevent sickness.
Fentanyl & Human Trafficking
These two massive problems seemed to have taken a backseat over the years with more attention paid to hot button debatable topics. Well there is no debate, everyone should be on the same page here. The fact that it's 2024 and human trafficking is still a thing is repugnant. Every effort needs to be taken to stomp out this scourge once and for all. Hand in hand with that issue is the explosion of fentanyl over the last decade. We can see how awful this problem can get when we look at other states who have lost the battle. We all know someone who has fallen victim to this drug. We simply can't let this go on any longer.
Small Business Exodus
You can't seem to drive anywhere in my district without seeing plazas of empty businesses. If you have spent your life in this area; Troy, Royal Oak and Clawson, then you can think of businesses that are now gone, with nothing to replacing them. What is going on that small businesses in our area keep going under? The State needs to get out of the way to let small business flourish again.
Campaign Finance
Of course I have to highlight this issue. Sadly, so many people don't even realize how big of a business campaigns and elections are. For the State and US House, which are 2 year offices, it's almost as if these people never stop campaigning. I cannot imagine when the nation was founded, that the framers wanted to see a congressman spend so much time on fundraising. They certainly did not want politicians beholden to anyone or anything besides the voters.
